How To Set Up A Drink Tasting Journal | Track Your Favorite Tea, Coffee, Wine, Beer & More!

by Design Team 24 Apr 2022 0 Comments

Hey-lo! It’s Marsha, Design Team Alum, from Do You Salut. One of my favorite events of the year is the Coffee and Tea Festival. It’s a two day festival where enthusiasts get to taste teas and coffees from many different vendors. There’s also workshops about coffee and teas. One of my favorite workshops was one about cooking with tea! When I saw Archer and Olive launch the “Time for Tea” notebook in neapolitan I knew this would be the perfect companion. Today we’re going to make a “Drinks Journal''. Don’t worry if you don’t like tea. I’ll show you how you can create this journal for coffee, wine, beer, whiskey, cocktails and mocktails.  Let’s get to it!

The Works:

Cover Page & Index:

If you are doing just a tea journal there are a couple of theme ideas that you can use for inspiration for the cover page. Some theme examples include:

  • Tea shop
  • Café
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Florals
  • Fdf

On the page to the side of the cover page I decided to create an index because this journal is going to include teas, wine, cocktails, and other drinks. The index page will help me quickly get to the section needed. I decided to go with a tea shop/cafe theme for the entire journal, so I made the index to look like a menu.  I recommend using the neapolitan journal if you are going to use the journal for multiple drinks. The different colors are helpful for keeping the sections separated.  The sections I’m using in my journal are : white tea, green tea, black tea, tisane, coffee, red wine, white wine, beer, and cocktails/mocktails.

Drink Cover Pages

Each beverage type should get its own section and cover page.

  1. At the center of the page write the name of the beverage with the pen or marker.
  2. Under the beverage type draw an image of the beverage. For example if the section is tea you can draw a teacup. While I started drawing I didn’t like how it was turning up so I pulled some images from Canva and used them to create stickers.
  3. Then draw a border to give the page a menu aesthetic.

Tasting Notes

Now we get to the fun part! Here are some ideas of things you can note about the different beverages.

Tea

So tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. When its leaves are brewed it makes “tea”.

tea tracker example

Tea name:

Look/Smell/Taste: Write down adjectives that come to mind.

Ranking:  Rate the coffee the way you would a star-rated system.

Thoughts: In this section you can write whatever thoughts you might have about the tea.

Tisanes

Any beverage (warm or iced) that doesn’t come from the camellia sinensis plant or is considered a tisane. So jasmine tea, chamomile, ginger, etc. Tisanes are caffeine free unless blended with a tea, for example a blueberry green tea. These are all actually tisanes. You don’t have to create a special section for them if you find it overwhelming. If you put both teas and tisanes in the same section just remember to make note that it is a tisane.

Tisane name:

Misc.

Although I prefer using the Traveler’s Notebook, this journal can also be created using the B6 journals or the mini pocket books that were in the Geometric Sub box.

I’ve also created a printable coffee and tea journal printable that can fit the travelers notebook. The print is faint enough that you can color on top with the Calliograph pens or Acrylograph pens. I’ve also included pages that have just the title in case you're inspired and want to create your own design.
