7 Journaling Prompts For Self Care
Hey guys, Masha here from Masha Plans.
Summer is arriving soon and it’s usually the most chill time of the year.
I love summer not only because my birthday is in June, but also because it’s the time I feel more inspired and I have more time to try new things and most importantly - spend more time taking care of myself.
It’s also the best time to use the enormously shameful collection of Archer and Olive journals I have, and probably you do too.
So here today, I want to share with you a few journaling prompts that can: help you concentrate on yourself a little bit, have more fun with your journal and get creative.
I feel like creating a self love, self discovery kind of journal might be an amazing project this summer, especially considering all the stress we’ve been through with this pandemic.
Let’s do that, together with these simple but powerful prompts!
SUPPLIES
To be honest I haven’t really done all of these myself, but I’ll be including here some self love pages I’ve created before.
For those, I usually prefer my B5 Archer and Olive journal, it allows for more space and that’s very important.
I just received my B5 from the Spring release and omg it’s gorgeous! I think I’ll start using it as my secret self love journal right away.
I also have here several photos of my memory keeping journal. For that, I used my Forest Night sparkling journal. I think it looks absolutely perfect for storing all the happy memories.
If you decide to get those journals or anything else from Archer and Olive - be sure to use code MASHA10 to get 10% off your order.
JOURNALING PROMPTS
Here we go - some ideas for self love journaling.
I love those because they can be used for traditional journaling, a.k.a. just writing things down. But they can also be creative, like if you use stickers, doodles and lettering to make prompts into a beautiful BuJo page.
The choice is, of course, yours. Just give it a try and try to put these things on paper.
- My favorite way to spend the day
I love dreaming about spending every day in my perfect way. But, what makes a perfect day? Sit down and daydream a little bit. What are some things that make your day awesome?
It’s also a cool cheat sheet for the future if you feel like you’re not having a good day - just look at this page and you’ll see what are some things you can do to improve it.
- The words to live by
A good quote can be a great motivation and a reminder on what things are important to you.
I actually love starting a month with a quote page to kind of set the mood and intentions. I do get too lazy sometimes and skip it though.
But for your self love journal - a quote page is kind of a must have in my opinion!
You can create a quote page just with one quote, or maybe do a whole page full of quotes and positive sayings that inspire you, if you follow my totally hypocritical advice of not being a blob.
- I wish others knew about me
This is more a self reflective kind of page. The way I see it - you create a page with ways you want to be perceived and then you can start figuring out why people don’t see these things in you and how you can make those beautiful sides of you be better seen.
I really struggled with that at some point in my life and when I sat down and thought about it - it became so obvious and simple to fix.
As an example of this journaling prompts, I add here an about me page. Mine is, of course, full of silly facts about me, but you’ll probably want to go a bit deeper with this prompt.
- Things that make me smile
Just creating this list will bring a smile on your face and improve your mood.
I know because as I write these words and think about things that make me happy, I smile a little bit. Also because the thing that makes me the happiest is snoring on my arms.
Example of creative approach to this prompts - my spread with things that make me happy.
- My favorite moments
This is an easy one - write down your favorite moments. Bonus points if you decide to add some pictures to it.
Here is an example of how I do it with a page from my memory journal.
If you want to learn more about memory keeping you can always check my post How To: Memory Keeping In Your Bullet Journal.
- I’m inspired by
Create a list of all the things you find inspirational - books, movies, paintings, people.
This is a fun place to go to when you need a pick me up and a bit more creativity - you can always just listen to that podcast you love or start reading your favorite book and bang! - inspiration will hit you!
A good example here is my book tracker. Even though I’ve been reading significantly less these last months, books are still my greatest source of inspiration.
- Think of a compassionate way you’ve supported a friend recently, then write down how you can do the same for yourself.
Ok this might sound weird, but let’s be honest - we are usually much more supportive and forgiving with our friends than with ourselves. And this is not very good. Charity begins at home, after all.
We all need to learn how to show just as much love and understanding to ourselves as we would show to the loved ones.
This prompt can be an amazing reminder to do that!
WIll you be using any of these ideas?
If you will, be sure to tag me @mashaplans and @archerandolive on Instagram, we would love to see your creations.

I am not as artistically gifted as Masha, and I wonder how she preps to create these beautiful images for her journal. Is she able to simply draw them straight away, or is there a rough draft and plan?
Planning self care counts as self care, right? :)
I’ve had trial subscriptions on SkillShare, CreativeBug, and I just bought a year on Craftsy – have you guys ever discussed doing a class? I’m watching journaling classes, and I haven’t been really impressed so far. I learn more from the videos here.
(BTW, adorbs washi holder! It’s a zippy tube? I love it!)
