When in Quarantine: Lettering + Doodles to help you cope

by Liz Gray 31 Mar 2020 0 Comments

Hi friends, it's Liz from @thegraytergood here with some illustration prompts and a calming process video to hopefully help y'all relax a bit during this strange, stressful time in our world.

To recreate this illustration, you'll need:

  • Your Archer + Olive Dot Grid Notebook (I have the A5 size)
  • A black and a white gel pen (sizes 08 and 10)
  • A black and a grey Sakura Glaze pen
  • Any color of Crayola Super Tips
  • A pencil, eraser, and a ruler

As always, I sketched everything in very lightly using my mechanical pencil, and then went in and outlined everything in my chosen colors. Make sure to let the pens, especially the Glaze pens, dry for awhile before using the eraser over top. Test the ink's dryness by tapping lightly with your finger, and make sure to not rub the eraser on the page too hard. The Glaze ink especially takes a long time to dry, so if you're filling in large areas like I did, let it dry completely before trying to touch it, about 10-20 minutes.

One more pro tip - sometimes the Glaze ink stays sticky for a long time even though it's dry. I recommend leaving your journal open overnight to dry, and then placing a sheet of printer paper between the pages when you close it to prevent the ink from sticking to itself (you should only need to do this for a week or two).

I've added some printable pages below for you to color, illustrate, and letter with, and hope that you have fun with this while we're all stuck at home for the next few weeks. Please stay safe and stay well, and don't forget to share your recreations or coloring pages with me on Instagram by tagging @thegraytergood!
