Hello everyone! Welcome back to my second How To of this month! I recently received my Archer and Olive Blackout Book and can I just say...STUNNING!! I've owned quite a few journals in the past - a black page one included, but these are my absolute favorites! The thick black pages are perfect to journal, letter or draw in! You can use virtually any medium - pens, paints, markers with ZERO bleed through!
Since a lot of you have been asking about how to use these Blackout Journals, today I'm going to walk you through this super fun lettering piece! I have a thing for bright summery themes and taking inspiration from my last post, I'm doing one with watermelons! If you'd like to recreate this piece - Here are the supplies you'll need:
First step - the lettering. I used the white gelly roll pen to do a simple line lettering. This helps me decide on the placement of my watermelon slices!
Using the “faux calligraphy” technique, I completed the lettering - with thicker downward strokes and thinner upward strokes. To start with the watermelons, I quickly drew some simple border lines using a pencil. This just helps me visualize where I want to start inking in. Using a red gelly roll pen, I then went over the lines to draw in my watermelon slices!
Start filling in the slices using the red gelly roll pen all the way through -
I then added in a white border to the top of the watermelon slices to make them pop - ending with green for the 'rinds' of the watermelon! To finish the piece, add in the seeds using black. I also added in some flourishes and little flowers!
