How To: Grid Spacing In Your A5 Notebook + Free Printable

by Guest Blogger 24 May 2021 2 Comments

Hello friends! It's Nabaa from @whimsical.doodles on Instagram 💛

In this blog post, I'll be talking about one of the most invaluable pages in my notebook - the Grid Cheat Sheet

What's the first thing you do in a brand new bullet journal?

I've been bullet journaling for over 3 years now and one of my MOST referenced spread is my Grid Setup! I use it almost every time I need to create a new weekly set up and it is the first thing I set up in any new journal - no more counting down rows or columns each time you need to journal.

(Speaking of new notebooks and journals, remember to use my affiliate code WHIMSICAL10 for a discount on all your Archer and Olive purchases!)

Grid Spacing - What kind?

As with all things bullet journaling, there is no "one size fits all", go-to layout for a grid page. Your reference page should reflect all the information that is most important to you.

I personally find it much easier to use a 2 page setup with vertical divisions on one and horizontal on the other! But I'm going to show you a couple different options so you can decide what works best for you :)

Let's get into it!

1. Basic Blocks

This set up is my favorite way to use a grid page - I like that it is super functional, easy to use, and doesn't have a bunch of lines running across the page!

2. Grid Cheat Sheet

By far the most commonly used grid layout, this layout allows for all the information to sit on one page making it that much easier to quickly reference! Fellow Design Team Member Elizabeth came up with this easy to use spread:

Fun tip: Use coloured lines to mark out what each line represents like this version DT member @masha,plans created!

3. Customize your grid

If you find yourself constantly counting down rows for calendar spreads or habit trackers, having custom measurements marked down can be a huge time saver!
