How to Create A Faux Dutch Door in your Bullet Journal

by Guest Blogger 17 Jan 2021 2 Comments

Hey there crew, it’s Mark from @Menwhobullet. You can find more of me on Instagram and Youtube

If you are anything like me, you may not want to waste any of your pages in your Bullet Journal or notebook. But at the same time, you see and want to create an awesome dutch door spread. So, I came up with a solution that will give you the dutch door feel without having to cut any of your pages.

Materials Used:

A5 Garden Slither Neapolitan Dot Grid Notebook

Acrylograph Pens

Pencil and Fineliner

Step 1

To get started, you are going to choose a space in your notebook for your faux dutch door spread. You are going to need four single pages to create this layout.

Step 2

Starting on the left page, you will mark your page to create three horizontal rows. In this A5 notebook, start from the bottom of the page and count up 12 spaces. This will leave 2 spaces at the top, which you could leave for the week's header, and the task header on your middle folded page.

Step 3

Once you have your marks on the left page, draw a straight line across the page.

Step 4

Next, you are going to fold your right page over and in half, right to left. Now, use the lines on the left page to use as a guide, draw across the center and right page. Now that you have your spaces marked in pencil, go over them with a marker or a pen.

Step 5

Using your Acrylograph pens or marker, you can start to add your headers for each day of the week. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be left-aligned on the left page, and Thursday, Friday, and Weekend will be right-aligned on the right page. Also, title your Middle dutch door fold on the left and right side with "Tasks".

Step 7

Open your folded middle page. In my spread, I used this space for trackers like sleep, mood, steps, and habits. You can fill or use this "secret" space for whatever you need.

And there you go, your faux dutch door spread with a special secret space for notes, tasks, trackers, or anything your little planner heart desires. This is a great way to get the look and functionality without having to cut your precious pages.

That’s cool! I don’t need nearly that much space for tasks – but I need to find some other reason to do this … maybe flip the trackers and tasks? That might work for me.
