50+ Activity Ideas For When You're Bored | Boredom Buster Jar Tutorial

by Content Team 19 May 2022 0 Comments

Hello! Ericka from @Crafteinated here with several boredom buster ideas and how to organize them!

You can categorize boredom busters into ones for kids, adults, online, outdoors, indoors, crafts, and more! Boredom busters are great if you find yourself (or your kids) saying, “I’m bored.” Also, if you are looking for something to do but cannot make up your mind, I have a fun and straightforward project that can help you combat the boredom blues!

Boredom Buster Supplies Used:

 bullet journal supplies

Any size Archer & Olive journal will work for this project! (I am using an A5 size!)

Pens (I used a couple of microns and grey Tombows)

Archer & Olive Washi (I used from the Greyter Good Collab with Archer & Olive as well as some coordinating grid washi)

Stencil from the May Archer & Olive floral box

Archer & Olive Journal Stencil & Ruler

Archer & Olive Notepad

Jar

Paper Trimmer

Scissors

Getting Started

bordom buster ideas

I made my cover page, which is optional. I always love doing a cover. It makes starting a new collection easier to identify, and it is fun to do! I used my Tombows, Microns, and the stencil from Archer & Olive to complete this simple and abstract cover.

I decided to go with a monochrome theme because we are spicing up the mundane and conquering our boredom

Starting the Spread

I decided to make separate lists to start for our boredom buster spreads.

starting the spreads

I broke it out into indoor, outdoor, creative,  in my journal, free, and cheap activities. I put them on their page to grow these categories with time. You can start with whatever prompt you want when you make your own! You could do group activities, things to do with your children, or holiday ideas. The starting point should be anything you are interested in doing or friends and family you want to include.

I designated washi to each category. The washi will come back later! If you do not have washi, you could also use a color or a symbol!

categories

Once I had all my categories in place, I started listing each item on my list. I will include the complete list and categories at the end of the blog and in my video.

I designed the printable on this blog post to help you grow your lists to help you make your spread, or you can use the printable!

Boredom Buster Bingo

I used a basic bingo setup to make a boredom buster bingo spread.

filling the page

You can fill your spread with any ideas you have! I will be filling mine with my favorite ideas from my initial list spread. You can pick twenty-five different activities to put on your Bingo spread! You can also use this as a tracker to complete some new and exciting activities outside of your norm.

Boredom Buster Jar

To mix things up, I made a boredom buster jar! With this jar, you can place all of your ideas into it, mix them up, and pull something out at random.

The first thing I did was cover a piece of notepad paper in washi up the horizontal side of the paper.

Once I completed that, I cut the notepad piece into two long 3-inch pieces. I then took my scissors and cut along the different pieces of washi.

In the end, I had 60 tags, 10 for each different washi that will match with the spread I earlier made in my journal.

I used those tags and wrote the activities on the backside of the pieces corresponding to the journal spread I first made. I did this because while you are choosing at random, you may want some control. Perhaps you only want to pick from the free activities, or the weather is terrible, so staying inside is essential.

add ideas

Then we will fill our jar with all of our fun activities so that it is ready when boredom strikes!
